artist statement

I am a photographer. Photography is a literal translation of what I see. A sliver of time and scenery. Nature, night shots, architecture and the unique/unusual are my focus with photography. I want the viewer see the beauty in my photography as I see it: the take away from the art is the beauty and uniqueness of New Mexico.

Some works are from classes. The manipulations are to evoke different feelings or a different way to visualize the scene through the work. The animation is based off my still images, creating a stop-motion video.  The black and white images with color are to focus the attention on a specific part of the image or to diminish the background as unimportant. All photographs are my images from class or personal use.

There are so many past and current artists that influence me and my work. Most recently the work of the photographers associated with the 1977 book New Topographics has drawn my attention as may of the themes throughout that book are similar to what I'm into photographing. I like the idea of showing man's intrusion on nature and now we can show how she's rebelling.

My future goals are ever changing. I am doing do what I love and evolving with it as well. I am restarting my journey and relearning everything photography, learning something new almost every day. I will continue to use gallery shows as a springboard for my work as much as possible.
