THE DESERT SOUTHWEST: NORTHWEST CORNER OF NEW MEXICO

After the initial shock wore off from moving to New Mexico, the surroundings quickly grew on me. It is one thing to see pictures in a book but quite another to experience them. There is a sharp dichotomy living in the desert. Houses are grouped in clusters and far from each other. The mountains and plateaus line the highway; dirt roads lead to homes not seen from the main drag. Hiking and biking up the mountains is one way to explore the area. The mountains rise up to the sky, creating a new panorama with each layer up their side. Trees are set in their positions after many years; some dead from age, others green in summer only, more are gnarly and twisted. On the ground, evidence of cattle and horses are dotted along trails and walkways. Nearby, the locals let their cows and horses roam free. It is an interesting sight to see a cow grazing in the front yard or hear the horse hooves clomping down the road. The cows walk through the area as if it were their own. Groups of horses congregate outside the house as if at a barbeque. It is intriguing for me to have all this beauty just outside my door.

The following images are individually titled, set as singles and diptychs with the diptychs sharing the title. Ideally, this would be an installation or gallery show. Please, enjoy a bit of the southwest.
